The Discontinued Energy E401: A Missed Opportunity
The Energy E401, a device created by Energizer, was set to be released in February of 2019. However, due to unknown reasons, the launch was cancelled. This news came as a disappointment to many smartphone enthusiasts who were eagerly anticipating its arrival.
The Specs
The Energy E401 was designed to run on the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system and boasted a compact 4 inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. With a sleek and modern design, it promised to be a budget-friendly, yet functional smartphone option.
Its dimensions, weight, and SIM capabilities were not officially announced, as the device never made it to the market. However, according to leaked information, it was expected to have a hybrid dual SIM slot and a weight and size comparable to other phones in its price range.
The device also featured a Mediatek MT6580M chipset, a quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, and a Mali-400MP2 GPU. It was equipped with 8GB of storage and 1GB of RAM, along with a microSDHC card slot for expandable memory.
The Camera and Battery
The Energy E401 was rumored to have a single 5 MP rear camera with LED flash and the ability to record videos at 720p. The front camera was expected to be a 2 MP camera, perfect for taking selfies and video calls.
It was powered by a Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery, which may not have been the most impressive battery life, but definitely sufficient for everyday usage. Unfortunately, there is no information available on the battery's charging capabilities or if it featured any fast charging technology.
The Features
The Energy E401 was equipped with all the necessary features expected of a modern smartphone. It had Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS capabilities for connectivity. However, NFC technology and a fingerprint scanner were not included.
The device also had an accelerometer and featured a loudspeaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It did not have a USB-C port, but it did have a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. It also came with a pre-installed FM radio app for entertainment on-the-go.
The Missed Opportunity
The cancellation of the Energy E401's release was a missed opportunity for Energizer to offer a budget-friendly device with decent specs. With the rise of low-cost smartphone options in recent years, this device could have been a strong contender in the market.
Whether it was due to production issues, lack of demand, or competition, we will never know. The only thing we can do is reflect on what could have been and hope that Energizer will bring us more smartphone options in the future.
