The Sleek and Feature-Packed Samsung E620: A Blast from the Past

In 2005, amidst the rise of smartphones, Samsung released their E620 feature phone, proving that not all devices needed to have fancy touchscreens and advanced operating systems. This compact and lightweight phone quickly gained popularity for its sleek design and impressive features.

Dimensions and Storage

The Samsung E620 weighed just 85 grams and had a thickness of 24mm, making it easy to carry around in your pocket or bag. However, unlike modern phones with expandable storage options, the E620 had no card slot. But fear not, as it still offered ample space for photos and MP3s with 16 MB of storage, along with 4 MB for Java apps and 3 MB for email.

Network and Launch Details

The E620 operated on GSM technology and supported 2G bands of GSM 900/1800/1900, with a Class 10 GPRS feature. It was announced in early 2005, making it one of the first feature phones to hit the market. Unfortunately, the E620 is currently discontinued and cannot be found in stores.

Design and Display

The E620 had a simple yet stylish design, with dimensions of 89 x 45 x 24 mm and a weight of 85 grams. Its main display was a TFT screen with 256K colors and a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. Additionally, the E620 had a second external TFT display with 265K colors and a resolution of 96 x 96 pixels.

Camera and Sound Features

For those times when you wanted to capture memories on the go, the E620 offered a 1 MP single camera with LED flash and video recording capabilities. However, it lacked a front-facing camera for selfies.

In terms of sound, the E620 was equipped with a loudspeaker and could support downloadable polyphonic and MP3 ringtones. It also had a 3.5mm jack for headphones, which unfortunately was not the standard at the time.

Connectivity and Features

The E620 did not have advanced connectivity options like Wi-Fi or GPS, but it did have Bluetooth 1.1 and a USB port for data transfer and charging. It also offered a range of features such as SMS, EMS, MMS, and email messaging, along with a WAP 2.0/xHTML browser and Java support for MIDP 2.0 games and apps. Other useful features included a predictive text input, organizer, SyncML, voice dial, voice memo, and vCard.

Battery Life and Other Details

The E620 was powered by a removable Li-Ion 800 mAh battery, which could provide up to 200 hours of standby time and up to 5 hours and 30 minutes of talk time. As for its color options, there is not much information available, but it did have an SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) of 0.66 W/kg (head) in Europe.

The Samsung E620 may not be as advanced as our current smartphones, but it sure did pack a punch during its time. It was a popular choice for its compact design, impressive features, and affordable price. And even though it may be discontinued, it will always hold a special place in the hearts of its users as a blast from the past.
