Get to Know the Optik: ZTE's Android Tablet Release of 2012
The Optik by ZTE was released in February of 2012, making it an early player in the expanding world of Android tablets. With its affordable price and decent specifications, it quickly gained popularity among budget-conscious consumers.
The Optik's Design and Launch
The Optik has a sleek yet sturdy design, with dimensions of 193 x 119.4 x 13.2 mm and weighing in at 400 grams. It comes in a classic black color, giving it a sophisticated look. The tablet uses a mini-SIM card for network connectivity and has a dedicated slot for a microSDHC card, allowing for expandable storage.
ZTE announced the release of the Optik in February of 2012, and it was made available to the market that same month. Unfortunately, due to its outdated specifications, the device was discontinued shortly after its launch.
The Optik's Display and Platform
The Optik has a 7.0 inch TFT display, providing a decent screen-to-body ratio of approximately 61.7%. Its resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels and 16:10 aspect ratio results in a pixel density of around 216 pixels per inch. Although not the sharpest display on the market, it is still suitable for everyday use.
Running on the Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system, the Optik is equipped with a Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon S3 chipset and a dual-core 1.2 GHz Scorpion CPU. These specifications may not be able to handle the latest apps and games but are sufficient for basic tasks such as web browsing and video streaming.
Memory, Camera, and Other Features
The Optik comes with 16GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM, providing enough space to store essential files and run multiple apps simultaneously. It also has a dedicated microSD slot, allowing for expandable storage up to 32GB.
The tablet boasts a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and a 2-megapixel front camera, suitable for video calls and basic photography. It also has stereo speakers, providing a decent audio experience for watching videos or listening to music.
In terms of features, the Optik has an accelerometer and compass sensor, making it compatible with various fitness and navigation apps. It also comes with a document viewer and organizer, making it a handy device for productivity.
Battery Life and Connectivity
The Optik comes with a non-removable Li-Ion 4000 mAh battery, which is large enough to last for hours of use. This makes it an ideal device for long trips or remote work.
In terms of connectivity, the Optik supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and A-GPS, providing options for internet access and location services. Unfortunately, it does not come with a radio feature.
Is the Optik Worth the Price?
With its affordable price tag of approximately 230 EUR, the Optik by ZTE offers decent specifications and features. However, it may not be suitable for heavy use due to its outdated operating system and chipset. If you are in the market for a budget-friendly tablet for basic use, the Optik is worth considering.
